Michael Williams

Michael Williams is the Head of Programming at Melbourne's new Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas. His reviews can be read in the Melbourne Age, the Australian and the Sydney Morning Herald, as well as Australian Book Review, Meanjin and the Monthly.appointments and qualifications

Michael is a member of the Judging Advisory Panel for the Melbourne Prize for Literature 2009.

His current role at the Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas involves establishing this government initiative as a hub for Victoria's literary and publishing community.

He also oversees the centre's promotion of reading and ideas and provision of a 'one-stop shop' for the public which focuses state-wide literary activity in a single central location; the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne.

influence and experience

Michael has worked as a writer, editor, publisher and broadcaster. After several years at Text Publishing, in 2007 he spent six months in New York working in the office of literary scout, Maria Campbell.

Since returning to Melbourne, he has worked freelance for various publishing houses including Random House, Scribe Publications and Affirm Press. He recently completed 18 months as part of the breakfast radio team on Melbourne's 3RRR radio.
